Car Module Programming in NJ: BCM, ECM, TCM, ELV & More

Car module programming in NJ is the core of what separates a specialist from a general locksmith. Modern German and European cars are networks of computers, and several of them are tied to the key and the immobilizer. Blessed Locksmith, based in Bloomfield, programs, matches, clones and codes these modules on-site, so the car does not need to be towed. If you are not sure which module is at fault, start with European car diagnostics.

Car Module Programming in NJ: What It Covers

A replacement or repaired module usually cannot just be plugged in. It must be matched to the car's immobilizer and keys, and often coded for the car's equipment. Without that, the car may not start, may not recognize its keys, or may throw faults. Below are the modules we work with. For key programming, see the keys page.

BCM — Body Control Module

What it does: controls locks, lights, windows, wipers, alarm and, on many cars, key recognition and immobilizer communication.

Symptoms of failure: the key is not detected, doors lock or unlock unpredictably, interior lights stay on, the battery drains, or the car will not start.

What we do: diagnose the module, then program, match or clone a replacement and code it to the car.

ECM / ECU — Engine Control Module

What it does: manages the engine and takes part in the immobilizer check before allowing the engine to run.

Symptoms of failure: crank with no start, no communication with the module, stalling, or a car that stops running after a used ECU was fitted.

What we do: match a replacement or used ECM to the car's immobilizer, or clone the original data. See also used ECU installs.

TCM — Transmission Control Module

What it does: controls shifting, and on many cars it must be coded to the car and the engine computer.

Symptoms of failure: harsh or erratic shifting, limp mode, a transmission warning light, or no communication with the module.

What we do: diagnose communication and fault codes, then program or code a replacement.

ELV — Electronic Steering Lock

What it does: locks and unlocks the steering column on many Mercedes-Benz models and takes part in starting the car.

Symptoms of failure: the car will not start, the steering stays locked, or the dash shows a steering-lock message.

What we do: diagnose the fault and program or replace the unit, matched to the car. See Mercedes-Benz key programming.

EIS / EZS — Electronic Ignition Switch

What it does: reads the key, handles ignition and start authorization on many Mercedes-Benz cars.

Symptoms of failure: key not recognized, no ignition, accessories not powering up, or intermittent starting.

What we do: test the EIS/EZS, program keys to it, or replace and match the unit.

BMW CAS / FEM / BDC

What it does: the access and start control module on BMW, and the equivalent on MINI. Which one the car has depends on the model.

Symptoms of failure: no key recognition, no start, doors not responding, and repeated electrical faults.

What we do: read and diagnose the module, program keys, or replace and match it. See BMW key programming and MINI key programming.

VW & Audi KESSY

What it does: the keyless entry and start system used on many Volkswagen and Audi models.

Symptoms of failure: the smart key is not detected, push-button start does nothing, or the car locks and unlocks erratically.

What we do: test the system, program smart keys, and work on the related modules. See Audi and Volkswagen.

Instrument Cluster Immobilizer

What it does: on many European cars the instrument cluster stores immobilizer or key data.

Symptoms of failure: an immobilizer warning light, no start after cluster replacement or repair, or a car that no longer matches its keys.

What we do: match a replacement or repaired cluster to the car's immobilizer system.

Module Cloning and Coding

What it does: cloning copies the data from a faulty module to a replacement. Coding and adaptation set a used module up for the car it now sits in.

Symptoms of failure: no start or wrong equipment behavior after a used module was installed.

What we do: clone where it is the right approach, and code and adapt used modules so they work in your car.
